It is no doubt that Wes Anderson’s way of filmmaking is so specific and unique to his movies that it could basically be its own genre. The mix of pastel colors, aesthetically pleasing visuals, symmetry, and quirky, slightly awkward acting is what really makes a Wes Anderson film a Wes Anderson Film. Throughout his movies it has become apparent that he has many recurring themes. One of them being speech pattern, most the actors deliver their lines in a dry, deadpan way which add to his sense of humor. The actors deliver their lines in such a serious way that his intended comedic aspects are sometimes hard to tell if they are intended or not. He also uses the same type of shots in the majority of his films. His most common are the wide-angle shot, overhead, zoom and the close-up symmetric shot.

Anderson does an amazing job on making his films seem like they are in a timeless universe. The soundtrack used are mostly from the 60’s and 70’s but based on the shots and technology, these stories could really take place at any time. There is rarely any product placement in his films, as it would ruin the authenticity of Anderson’s distinct style. He also does not use real life locations and landmarks, this adds to his sense of originality and a unique world.
Personally my favorite movie of his is “Moonrise Kingdom.” From start to finish, I was enthralled with this film. Not because of the actual plot, but because the visual satisfaction of the cinematography and phenomenal acting are enough to transport the viewer to the island of New Penzance, where this film is placed.
